DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE RICHMOND MARKET CHARTER AND WHAT IMPLICATIONS IT MAY HAVE ON AN EVENT YOU ORGANISE?

Richmond Town Council holds the Market Charter for an area of 6.23 miles radius of the Town. This means that all Fairs/Car Boot Sales/Craft or Collectors Fair held within this area should have our permission.

To enable us to uphold this Charter we advertise annually in the local press (copy attached) we are to be informed of all Fairs, Car Boot Sales, Craft or Collectors Fairs that are to be held. We are aware that not all Parishes may have seen this notice so we are circulating this information to all areas that fall within the 6.23 miles.

Again, to uphold the Charter we also charge a stallage fee of £10 payable to Richmond Town Council 28 days prior to the Fair/Sale taking place.

The Tidy Village Volunteer Group

Would you would like to get involved and volunteer to keep your village litter free, tidy and floral? A group of volunteers meets throughout the year to conduct litter picking and general tidying of areas around the village. Equipment is available, so bring yourself along with a can-do attitude.

Please contact the Parish Clerk in the first instance who will pass on your details to the organizers of future events. parish.clerk@brompton-on-swale.org.uk

Village Hub Cafe & Computer Access Group at St Pauls Church Hall

The Hub Café & Computer Access Group is not running at the moment due to Covid 19. It is hoped we may be able to open in January 2021 if Government Guidelines allow.

The Computer Access Group is for anyone of all ages and all abilities who wants to know more about their computer, laptop, or tablet, from how to turn it on, how to work within programs, how to get onto the internet safely, keep in touch by learning to send emails, Skype, FaceTime, Snapchat, or any other program you would like to use. All for free.

Curlew – The Friendly Cycling Group (Scorton)

Perhaps you have a bike lurking at the back of your garage or have been meaning to get some exercise but feel overwhelmed by the prospect of an expensive gym membership? Well, the Curlew Cycling Group could be just for you. We go for leisurely bike rides on quiet country lanes on the last Saturday of every month.

Our rides set off from villages in the area at 10.00am. We are totally non-competitive with all ages joining us. It’s free to cycle with us and you’ll meet some friendly people who want exercise and to obtain all the benefits that cycling can bring. A coffee and cake stop is always included (an essential part of cycling!), so give John Yorke a ring on 07795 097984 or email him: curlewcycling@gmail.com

Brompton-on-Swale Village Choir

The choir is now in its 38th year and has become accomplished and versatile in the music it performs since its inception in 1982.

The ladies regularly do local concerts, weddings, church services etc. and are honoured to have been invited twice to take part in the Festival of Brass and Voices at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The choir is also due to take part in a massed choral presentation of Ladies, Mixed and Male voice choirs, staged by the National Association of Choirs in celebration of 100 years in song at The Sage in Gateshead. This will hopefully now take place in April 2021 as it sadly had to be postponed for 12 months due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent temporary closure of theatres and music venues.

There are approximately 38 members who meet every Wednesday evening at 7.45pm in St.Pauls Church, Brompton on Swale and new members are always welcome. No auditions are necessary, if you enjoy singing all types of music just come along.

If you prefer to come and have a 'taster' session first then you would also be very welcome.

At the time of writing, the choir is not meeting due to the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions. Government guidelines and advice are awaited in terms of when choirs are able to resume and singing to recommence.

A website is currently under construction but in the meantime, any further details if required can be obtained by ringing 01748 822191.

Brompton-on-Swale Methodist Chapel

The chapel is a member of the North Yorkshire Dales circuit and open (under normal circumstances) every Sunday for a service commencing at 10.45 am. We have a number of different preachers who take the service, some of whom are Ministers of the Circuit, and some are local preachers from the surrounding area. Each one has their own method of getting the message across and with four or five good hymns you can be assured of feeling uplifted at the end! Coffee, tea and biscuits with the occasional ‘home bake’ all go toward generating a feeling of togetherness and community spirit.

The Superintendent Minister for the circuit is Rev. Melanie Reed who lives in Leyburn. The noticeboard inside the front of the chapel railings gives news on forthcoming preachers and other items.

Regular events are held at chapels throughout the circuit and here in Brompton-on-Swale we have a monthly Lunch on the second Wednesday of the month organised by Rhoda Fraser. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to attend please contact Rhoda on 01748 818156. Payment is by a donation at the end of the meal.

Other events are held at the chapel, including the annual Harvest Festival celebration and musical evenings once or twice a year. Recently Sunday fm started on occasional Sunday afternoons between 3.00 pm and 4.30 pm. Fm stands for the words of Jesus ‘follow me’. Families are welcome to attend and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. During the past year we have had a Christmas craft session, a pancake party, storytelling, quizzes and much more. Refreshments are provided. It’s all free too! For information on Sunday fm please contact Phillip Clarke on 01748 812440.

Monthly Bible study sessions ae held, taking place at the homes of members of the congregation.

Keen gardeners from the chapel have built raised beds at the front where a variety of vegetables have been grown. It is the intention to encourage village folk to take some of the crop – as much as they think they require. Thee are further plans for the rear garden later in 2020 and 2021. Anyone interested in more information is asked to contact Arthur Wheeler on 01748 810778.
